Industrial Application of Brucite

Brucite is mainly used in the following industrial fields:


Extraction of Mg and MgO raw materials: MgO and MgO are extracted from brucite with high MgO content and less impurities, low decomposition temperature, non-toxic and harmless volatile matter produced during heating, so Mg and MgO can be extracted from brucite.


Reburnt magnesia: Mainly used in the production of magnesia refractories. Magnesium-carbon bricks and magnesia-chromium bricks are widely used in modern iron and steel industry. The amount of this kind of MgO has exceeded 1/2 of its output. The reburned magnesia made from brucite has the advantages of high density (>3.55 g/cm3), high refractory (>2800 C), high chemical inertia and high thermal shock stability.


Light Magnesium Oxide: The United States, Russia, Canada, Britain and other countries use chemical methods to extract light MgO from low-grade brucite.


Fused periclase: Pure product required for high-tech electronic products. The magnesite aggregate made from brucite by electromelting has high thermal conductivity and good electrical insulation, and the product life is increased by 2-3 times.


Chemical Pure Magnesium Reagent: Magnesium can be extracted by electrothermal method to prepare MgCl2, MgSO4, Mg (NO3) 2 and other chemical pure reagents.


Reinforcement material: Brucite can be used as a substitute for chrysotile asbestos in some fields. It is used in middle-grade heat preservation materials such as micro-porous calcium silicate and calcium silicate board. The basic formula is: diatomite lime slurry sodium silicate fibrous brucite. Fiber content is 8-10%. The product has high whiteness, beautiful appearance and low bulk density.


Flame retardant: The test of making flame retardant with polypropylene as matrix shows that brucite has good flame retardant effect and is an ideal non-toxic, smokeless, pollution-free and high temperature flame retardant. At the same time, it can enhance the effect of filler.


Paper filler: brucite has high whiteness, good peeling, strong adhesion and poor water absorption. The paper-making process can be changed from acid process to alkali process by using calcite as filler, and the pollution of pulp water can be reduced.


Crafts: Brucite compact block is rich in color, uniform in texture, good transparency, delicate and smooth; often with other minerals or varieties to form natural stripes, natural pattern modelling, with ornamental value. So it can be carved into handicraft.
