There are three ways to produce flame retardant magnesium hydroxide: the first is a simple physical grinding method. The magnesium hydroxide produced by brucite or chemical method is crushed to 1-5 μ m by dry or wet method. The finer the particle size is, the better the flame retardant effect will be, and the strength of the polymer will not be affected. The second is hydrothermal synthesis. Magnesium hydroxide colloid was reacted under the hydrothermal condition of 140-180 ℃. The flame retardant magnesium hydroxide with particle size of about 1-2 μ m was obtained. The third is water law. The particle size of magnesium hydroxide is about 1-5 μ m when magnesium oxide is hydrated in a special solution of hydrating agent. Magnesium hydroxide, a high-quality flame retardant abroad, is generally produced by the latter two methods. It has the advantages of fine particle size, small surface area and good appearance. Hydrothermal process is simple, good quality, but high production cost. The relative technology of water method is very complex, but the production cost is low. In order to achieve large-scale production capacity, water technology is generally selected. There are a lot of people studying the two processes in China.
