Light burning; soft burning
Property: a process for roasting refractory raw materials at low temperature to complete part of physical and chemical reactions and activate raw materials. The light burning temperature is determined according to the possible decomposition and volatilization of the material in the heat treatment process and the process requirements. There is an optimal light burning temperature for the determined materials. If the temperature is too high, the crystallinity will increase, the particle size will increase, the specific surface area and the activity will decrease. If the temperature is too low, there may be residual parent salt which does not decompose and hinder the sintering. In light fired products, there are many lattice defects, small crystal material, many pores, low strength and high chemical activity, so it is generally not suitable to be directly used for brick making. Refractory products with tar pitch or other organic compounds as binder shall be lightly burned before being impregnated. The first step of two-step calcination of refractory products is usually light burning.
