Industrial application of brucite

Magnesite is mainly used in the following industrial fields:


Extraction of Mg and MgO raw materials: magnesium and MgO are extracted from brucite, the content of MgO in the ore is high and the impurities are less; The decomposition temperature is low; Therefore, Mg and MgO can be extracted from brucite.


Reburning magnesia: mainly used in the production of magnesia refractories. Magnesia carbon brick and magnesia chrome brick are widely used in modern iron and steel industry. The amount of MgO used is more than half of its output. The calcined magnesia prepared from brucite has the advantages of high density (> 3.55 g / cm3), high fire resistance (> 2800 ℃), high chemical inertness and high thermal shock stability.


Light MgO: the United States, Russia, Canada, Britain and other countries use chemical methods to extract light MgO from low-grade brucite.


Fused periclase: it is a special pure product required by high-tech electronic products. The periclase aggregate made from brucite by electric melting process has high thermal conductivity and good electrical insulation, and the service life of the product is increased by 2 ~ 3 times.


Chemical pure magnesium reagent: using electrothermal method, magnesium can be extracted to produce chemical pure reagents such as MgCl2, MgSO4 and Mg (NO3) 2.


Reinforcing material: brucite can be used as a substitute for chrysotile in some fields. Used in microporous calcium silicate, calcium silicate board and other medium insulation materials. The basic formula is: diatom earth rock mortar, water glass fiber brucite. The fiber content is 8 ~ 10%. The product has high whiteness, beautiful appearance and low bulk density.


Flame retardant: the test of flame retardant based on polypropylene shows that brucite has good flame retardant effect and is an ideal non-toxic, smokeless, pollution-free and high temperature flame retardant. At the same time, it can enhance the filling effect.


Papermaking filler: brucite has high whiteness, good peeling property, strong adhesion and poor water absorption. When it is combined with calcite as papermaking filler, the papermaking process can be changed from acid process to alkali process, and the pollution of pulp water can be reduced.


Crafts: brucite dense block, rich and changeable color, uniform texture, good transparency, delicate and smooth; It often forms natural stripes and patterns with other minerals or varieties, which has ornamental value. So it can be carved into handicraft.
