Characteristics of brucite and brucite fiber

发表时间:2021-08-23

Brucite, also known as magnesium hydroxide, is a common flake aggregate; Sometimes fibrous aggregates are called brucite or brucite asbestos. Brucite also often forms the illusion of periclase.

Brucite is generally white to light green in color, and yellow or reddish brown if it contains more manganese or iron.

China's brucite mineral occurrences are more famous in Dandong, Liaoning, Xixia, Henan, Ningqiang, Shaanxi and other places. For example, Liaoning Kuandian brucite deposit has a reserve of 10 million tons, which is the largest brucite deposit found in the world. Heimulin, Shaanxi Province (reserves of 7.8 million tons) and Ji'an, Jilin Province (reserves of more than 2 million tons). In addition, brucite deposits are also found in Qilian Mountain, Qinghai Province and jianshibao, Sichuan Province. The national reserves are estimated to be about 25 million tons.

Brucite is mainly used as flame retardant and fireproof materials in industry. For example, a large number of magnesia carbon bricks and magnesia chromium bricks are needed in modern iron and steel industry.

Brucite fiber is a kind of fibrous magnesium hydroxide, which has the characteristics of white color, easy splitting and high cashmere yield.

Brucite fiber can be used as reinforcement materials and additives. It is mainly used in asbestos free cement, rubber, braking, friction, sealing, thermal insulation, coating, textile, adsorbent, flame retardant and other products.

Fibrous brucite is similar to chrysotile asbestos in heat resistance, insulation, alkali resistance and tensile strength. Moreover, the fine dust of fibrous brucite is easy to be dissolved in weak acid, has no pollution to the environment and no carcinogenic risk to human body. It can completely replace chrysotile asbestos in many fields.
