Is light burned magnesia

发表时间:2021-12-01

Light burned magnesia and active magnesia are two concepts

The scientific name of light burned magnesium oxide (MgO) is magnesium oxide, commonly known as magnesite, light burned powder and magnesia powder. Density 2.94, light yellow or white powder. Melting point 2852 ℃, boiling point 3600 ℃. Soluble in acid and ammonium salt, insoluble in water and ethanol. When the calcination temperature is 400 ℃, the specific surface area is 180m2 / g. At 1300 ℃, the specific surface area is only 3M2 / g. Deliquescent easily in the air. It belongs to pneumatic cementitious material.

Light burned magnesia, also known as caustic bitter soil, active magnesia. It is a light burned magnesium oxide obtained by calcining natural magnesite ore, brucite and magnesium hydroxide Mg (OH) 2 extracted from seawater or brine at 700 ~ 1000 ℃.

Active magnesium oxide

Molecular weight: 40.30 the activity of magnesium oxide refers to the ability of magnesium oxide to participate in chemical or physicochemical processes. In essence, it is the unsaturation of valence bonds on the surface of immature crystals, which is exacerbated by lattice distortion and defects. The difference of activity mainly comes from the incomplete size and structure of magnesium oxide. Active magnesium oxide is different from ordinary magnesium oxide, mainly in:

1) The particle size distribution is appropriate, and the average particle size is generally less than 2 μ m. The microscopic morphology is irregular particles or nearly spherical particles or flake crystals; 2) It has certain activity, which can be marked by citric acid activity (CAA value) (the smaller the value, the higher the activity) or expressed by iodine absorption value.

Active magnesium oxide dew is placed in the air to absorb water and carbon dioxide, which reduces its activity. Sometimes it needs chemical treatment for protection. Other properties are the same as light magnesium oxide.
