Use of magnesium hydroxide

Magnesium hydroxide is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula of Mg (OH) 2. It is a white amorphous powder or colorless hexagonal column crystal. It is soluble in dilute acid and ammonium salt solutions, almost insoluble in water. The water soluble part is completely ionized, and the aqueous solution is weakly alkaline.
The natural mineral brucite, which is heated to 350 ℃ and loses water to form magnesium oxide and magnesium hydroxide, can be used to make sugar and magnesium oxide. Because magnesium hydroxide is rich in nature, and its chemical properties are similar to aluminum, users began to use magnesium hydroxide to replace aluminum chloride for deodorant products. It is used as an analytical reagent and also in the pharmaceutical industry.
Magnesium hydroxide is a medium strong base (the solubility of magnesium hydroxide is very small, the solution is very weak, and sometimes it is treated as a weak base). Heating to 623K (350 ℃) means dehydration and decomposition: Mg (OH) 2 → MgO+H2O, which is easily soluble in acid or ammonium salt solutions.
