What is magnesium oxide used for in daily life

1. One of the main uses of MgO is as flame retardant. The traditional flame retardant materials are widely made of halogen-containing polymers or halogen-containing flame retardants.








2. Magnesium oxide can also be used as neutralizer. Magnesium oxide is alkaline and has good adsorption performance. It can be used as neutralizer for acid containing waste gas, waste water treatment, heavy metal and organic waste liquid treatment. With the improvement of environmental protection requirements, domestic demand increases rapidly.








3. Fine pressed MgO can be used as optical coatings. When the thickness of the coating is between 300 nm and 7 mm, the coating is transparent. The refractive index of 1 mm thick coating is 1.72.








4. For climbing stones, it can absorb sweat from hands. (Note: inhalation of magnesium oxide smoke can cause metal smog disease)








5. It is mainly used for preparation of oral medicine to neutralize excessive gastric acid. The commonly used preparations are: magnesium emulsion emulsion; magnesium cover tablets containing 0.1g MgO per tablet; zhisuanshan powder made of magnesium oxide and sodium bicarbonate, etc.








6. Light magnesium oxide is mainly used as raw material for ceramic, enamel, refractory crucible and refractory brick. It is also used as a polishing agent, binder, coating, filler for paper, accelerator and activator for chloroprene rubber and fluororubber.
