What is the difference between aluminum hydroxide

发表时间:2022-06-27

Both aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide have flame retardant, smoke suppression and filling functions, and can be used as flame retardants. What are the similarities and differences between them?
1、 Magnesium hydroxide ranks behind aluminum hydroxide at present, but its decomposition temperature is 110c~140c higher than that of aluminum hydroxide, so it is more suitable for high-temperature thermoplastic processing.
2、 As the thermal decomposition temperature of magnesium hydroxide is higher than that of aluminum hydroxide, the plastic added with magnesium hydroxide can withstand higher processing temperature, which is conducive to accelerating the extrusion speed and shortening the molding time. At the same time, its decomposition capacity is higher than that of aluminum hydroxide, and its hot melt is also higher, which helps to improve the flame retardant efficiency.
3、 In addition, the particle size is smaller than that of aluminum hydroxide, and the wear of the equipment is small, which is conducive to extending the service life of the processing equipment.
4、 The pH value of magnesium hydroxide is adjusted. As a kind of alkali, magnesium hydroxide has the ability to neutralize acid, but compared with traditional alkali, it is a weak alkali with unique buffer capacity.
5、 Magnesium hydroxide is suitable for slurry products because of its non precipitation, non polymerization, good fluidity, easy pumping and storage, and convenient use, adjustment and control.
6、 Aluminum hydroxide is an inorganic flame retardant additive with large dosage and wide application. Aluminum hydroxide, as a flame retardant, can not only be flame retardant, but also prevent smoke, no drop and no toxic gas. Therefore, it has been widely used, and its usage is increasing year by year. Scope of application: thermosetting plastics, thermoplastic, synthetic rubber, coatings, building materials and other industries.
7、 As an additive inorganic flame retardant, magnesium hydroxide has the advantages of good thermal stability, non toxicity, smoke suppression, high efficiency and carbon formation of the substrate. It also has the function of neutralizing the acid and corrosive gases generated in the combustion process without producing corrosive gases. As an environment-friendly green flame retardant, it has a good market prospect. However, the dispersion and compatibility of magnesium hydroxide in polymer materials are poor, which often leads to the decline of mechanical properties of flame retardant materials. Therefore, how to increase the compatibility between magnesium hydroxide and polymer and reduce the amount of magnesium hydroxide has become a problem to be solved.
Aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide have their own advantages and scope of use. Although they can be used as flame retardants, due to their differences, they should be selected according to their specific use requirements.
