Brucite, also known as oxyhydromagnesite, is usually a lamellar aggregate; sometimes it becomes a fibrous aggregate, which is called brucite or brucite asbestos. Brucite often forms the illusion of periclase.
The color of brucite is generally white to light green. If it contains more manganese or iron, it is yellow or reddish brown.
China's brucite ore spots are well-known in Dandong, Liaoning, Xixia, Henan, Ningqiang, Shaanxi and other places. For example, Kuandian brucite deposit in Liaoning Province, with a reserve of 10 million tons, is the largest brucite deposit found in the world. In addition, there are also brucite deposits in Qilian Mountain, Qinghai Province, jianshibao, Sichuan Province and other places. The national reserves are estimated to be about 25 million tons.
The main use of brucite in industry is to make fire-retardant and fireproof materials, such as magnesia carbon brick, magnesia chrome brick and so on.
Brucite fiber is a kind of fibrous hydromagnesite, which has the characteristics of white color, easy splitting and high cashmere yield.
Brucite fiber can be used as reinforcement materials and additives, mainly used in non asbestos cement, rubber, braking, friction, sealing, thermal insulation, coating, textile, adsorbent, flame retardant and other products.
Fibrous brucite is similar to chrysotile asbestos in heat resistance, insulation, alkali resistance, tensile strength, etc., and its fine dust is easy to be dissolved in weak acid, no pollution to environment, no cancer risk to human body, so it can completely replace chrysotile cotton in many fields.
